San Antonio Water System (SAWS) has completed operational reviews and readied equipment in advance of the anticipated freeze.
Building on improvements implemented since Winter Storm Uri, SAWS has strengthened coordination with the City of San Antonio and partner agencies. Also, generators have been added to crucial sites to ensure water service. Customer service operations will continue normal hours on Friday and Monday, and emergency services will remain available around the clock.
SAWS advises customers that although underground system pipes won’t freeze, prolonged cold can impact household plumbing, particularly pipes in exterior walls and above-ground sprinkler heads. Customers are encouraged to insulate exposed pipes, ensure indoor plumbing remains heated, and—if necessary—run a slow drip from a bathroom faucet farthest from the kitchen to maintain water flow. Please note that bills will not be adjusted for water used to prevent freezing.
If customers lose water service during freezing conditions, the following steps will help determine if you can resolve the issue inside your home:
• Check multiple faucets to see if the interruption is isolated.
• Ask neighbors whether they are experiencing service disruptions.
• Confirm that the home is adequately heated and consider whether you were away during the freeze.
• Ensure exposed pipes were covered.
