SAN ANTONIO: San Antonio Water System (SAWS) is pleased to announce another step forward in improving water management and providing additional transparency for our community. SAWS Non-Revenue Water Dashboard is now live and available to the public.
The dashboard features easy-to-understand charts and visuals that track key performance indicators. Information will be updated monthly. Visit saws.org/dashboard to explore the data and learn more about the factors that contribute to non-revenue water, sometimes referred to as “lost” water.
The new dashboard highlights the progress SAWS has made in reducing water loss by 26%.
Efforts contributing to this achievement include:
• Improving response times for reported water main breaks and leaks.
• Using predictive analytics to identify hidden leaks in areas with a higher risk of pipe failure.
• Replacing older Edwards Aquifer well meters with electronic meters that provide more accurate measurements of water production.
• Proactively repairing or replacing high-risk pipes before failures occur.
• Better measuring water used for authorized purposes such as firefighting, system flushing and maintenance.
• Continuing industry-leading conservation programs that reduce demand and lessen stress on infrastructure.
• Replacing mechanical customer meters with highly accurate ConnectH2O electronic meters that track hourly water use.
Non-revenue water is water produced by SAWS that is not delivered to or billed to customers. This includes water lost through leaks, water main breaks and other infrastructure failures, as well as authorized but unbilled uses such as firefighting, maintenance and public safety activities.
Water loss caused by aging infrastructure and measurement challenges is not unique to San Antonio. Utilities across the country are working to better track and reduce the amount of water that is produced but not billed. Through investments in technology, infrastructure and data-driven decision-making, SAWS continues to be a leader in those efforts.
